<p>Jeremy Wardle responded differently to the Haiti earthquake two years ago. He and his wife were adopting a child from an orphanage there. when the earthquake hit, Watdle flew to Haiti and rescued the girl along with 20 of her little friends. His private foundation now supports and cares for all of these children.</p>

We all recognise the need for a good night's sleep and just how terrible we can feel when we don't get one. In the short term sleep deprivation has an effect on your focus, decision making, and overall productivity. It may also influence your mood; making you more likely to be the office grump. The longer you go devoid of sleep the greater the danger that it will impact your wellness. I have experienced problems sleeping as far back as I can recall. In fact, my mother a short while ago commented that it was impossible getting me to sleep even as a young child. Here are some tips that I've applied during my own life to make sure that insufficient sleep doesn't steer me directly in to a rut.<br />

<p>Reset your body clock</p>

<p>It is important to keep a regular sleep schedule. Attempt going to sleep at the same time every night and waking up at the same time each morning. It is not likely that you will be in a position to do this immediately because at first you won&#8217;t be sleepy at your preferred bed time. Get it done slowly and go to sleep earlier and earlier each day. Keep this trend happening over weekends whenever you can too. When you don&#8217;t get sufficient sleep don&#8217;t feel guilty about taking a brief nap to catch up just remember not to nap too long (fifteen minutes should be enough) and try and do it as early in the afternoon as you can. If you&#8217;re able to keep the schedule going long enough you may finally wake up naturally without needing to rely on your noisy alarm.</p>
<p>Ideal light exposure</p>
<p>Melatonin is a hormone produced in the brain that is in charge of controlling the natural sleep-wake cycle. The level of Melatonin released is influenced by light exposure. Our brains should secrete more of the hormone at night, when it is dark, making us feel tired. Then in the daytime, when it is light, our brain should secrete a reduced amount of the hormone enabling us to stay alert. For this reason when you are in the office the entire day, with no exposure to natural light, you might begin to feel tired. Try to spend time outdoors during the day. In the evenings steer clear of bright lights. Shut down the television and laptop and don&#8217;t use backlit gadgets in bed either because this will likely activate the mind instead of calming it.</p>
<p>Take in the correct meals at the correct time</p>
<p>Attempt to eat dinner earlier in the evening and steer clear of big or tough to process meals. Try to minimize your liquid consumption too, unless you want to be waking up repeatedly to go to the toilet. What you eat is just as significant as how much you eat. Definitely stay clear of anything with caffeine more than 4-5 hours before going to bed. Additionally, there are numerous foods that can favorably impact sleep including chamomile tea, warm milk, and bananas.</p>
<p>Wear yourself out &#8211; naturally</p>
<p>When I was first battling to sleep I asked for help from a doctor hoping that he would just write me a prescription for sleeping pills. Instead he told me that the majority of the over-the-counter sleeping medication had unfavorable side effects like feeling fatigued the following day. He also said that after a while I would develop a reliance which could make it extremely challenging to sleep without aid. Then he questioned just how much physical exercise I did. It was evidently not enough. Be sure to get plenty of exercise and the earlier you do it the better. I now workout first thing each morning and by night fall I&#8217;m exhausted and all set for bed. On top of that I&#8217;m feeling much fitter too.</p>
<p>Clear your head</p>
<p>Anxiety and overthinking were other key factors that made it impossible for me to sleep. Should you be similar then you need to learn to wind down. Attempt some deep breathing or a little bit of light stretching before going to sleep. And if you are an over thinker like me, have a pencil and paper close to your bed, make a list of what it is that is on your mind and keeping you awake. This way you are able to take another look at it the next day with a clean mindset.</p>
<p>Seek assistance</p>
<p>If everything else fails know when you should go to a professional. You might have a far more serious problem that needs attention should you suffer from any one of these symptoms:</p>
<p>You are constantly tired</p>
<p>You have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep</p>
